Another season has come and gone!
The summer season has come to an end for the U16 Girls Regional team. The season kicked off on a cold and snowy April weekend at the Wesley Clover Showcase while parents on the sidelines wished for warmer days ahead! Our wish was granted – a minimum number of games and practices missed due to bad weather this year and we got to enjoy some beautiful summer nights at the pitch.
The team had a great season, finishing undefeated at 10-2-0 and on top of the ERSL U16 G Regional Division. They also participated in the Ontario Cup, the GIST and the OSU Showcase. While they didn’t win those tournaments, they played some terrific soccer, gained valuable experience against high-quality competition and strengthened their team play as the summer progressed. The season ended with a trip to Regional Championships in Guelph on Thanksgiving weekend, where the team faced high-quality competition once again, and the night time games in the cold had spectators bundled up once again, bringing the season full circle!
The young women on this team clearly have a love for the game – many have played for the Hornet’s Club since U9/U10 and return season after season! We also welcomed some new faces last spring, and most of the team is returning this winter to further their development. They are fortunate to have Nazeer Patel as their coach; someone with a wealth of experience on the pitch, and a desire to see girls foster a life-long love of the sport. They are a lucky bunch!
Special recognition also goes to our Team Manager - Tracy Macleod, Trainer - Nancy Scullion and Treasurers – Yves and Lynne for giving so much of their time. To all our other parents – thank you for booking tournaments, taking photos, managing equipment, being chauffeurs and cheering the team on through a great season. Looking forward to next year already!
