Champions in Kickin in the Capital

The G13 Swarm ended the summer season on a high note by taking first in their division at the Ottawa City Kickin in the Capital Tournament. The Swarm played five hard fought matches, improving each game to be crowned champions!

The tournament started off with a tough match against Boréal Rouyn-Noranda A. This team was tough, technical and played hard every minute. The Swarm came up short losing 2-1, but it set the stage for the rest of the tournament. In fact, the Swarm were the only team to score on Boréal Rouyn-Noranda A in the round robin.

In the team's next match they played OCSC T2 Blue, a team they were familiar with. That game ended in a hard fought 1-1 draw. Setting the stage for a must win in the final match to get a bye into the semi-finals.

Their opponents were the first place team in their ERSL Division, OCSC T2 Silver. This well coached and technically proficient team was ready to play. However, the Swarm were up to the challenge winning 2-1 against a team they had not beat all year. Timely saves and wonderful goals, including a spectacular game winner pushed the team into the Semi-finals.

In the semi-finals, the Swarm faced OISC T2, a very hard working, fast and never give-up team that had just beat OSU Power in the quarter-finals. The game was back and forth, each team had their chances. In the end the match ended 0-0 and had to be decided by a shootout. After the sixth shooter the Swarm girls sealed the win and punched their ticket to the finals. Many parents were on the edge of their seats at the end to end action!!!

In the final match the Swarm got another shot at Boréal Rouyn-Noranda A. This team was well coached, hard working and threw everything at the Swarm. The game was end to end, each team hitting posts, requiring big saves or just missing the net. The teams had the fans on their feet through the entire match and the excitement was unreal! The game ended 0-0 and had to be decided by another shootout. The Swarm did not need the full five shooters as the Keeper stopped the fifth Boréal Rouyn-Noranda A shot to seal the victory.

"This team has worked hard since the league ended almost a month ago," shared Coach Bryan. "They learned how to play possession soccer, switching when needed and playing the ball back. They were focused, overcame adversity, played hard all tournament and deserved to end the season in this fashion."

Congratulations Swarm on a great season ending win!
