(Ottawa, ON) Feb 11, 2019 – Ottawa Gloucester Hornets Soccer is proud to announce Karl Wasslen as one of our new Technical Directors that will lead the Hornets along with the highly qualified coaches in our programs. Karl is highly regarded in Ottawa and the Ontario region with a wealth of coaching and playing experience.
Karl started his outstanding career as a player as the goalkeeper of the Ontario Provincial U17 team in 1999-2000. He then traveled to Europe to play professional soccer in Romania and Germany in the next five years. In 2006, Karl came back to his home town and garnered the OUA East First Team All-Star and Academic and All-Canadian in three occasions with the Carleton University Ravens as a student-athlete. He also helped the Ravens to win bronze at the USPORTS Nationals while claiming gold in the OUA East Championship. Karl’s outstanding achievements on the field during his term at Carleton University granted him with the Jack Vogan award; an honor presented to a student-athlete who, through activity in athletics, has exhibited a high and progressive standard of performance, participation, and attitude.
Karl has an extensive coaching career which, started from an early age. While being an instrumental part of the development of former Capital United Soccer Programs, coach/member of Golden Gloves Academy for 18 years, Karl has been the goalkeeper coach at the Carleton University Men’s Soccer Program since 2011.
