By OG Hornets 07/17/2019, 11:45pm EDT

No GK, No Problem!

The G15 Premier Team had big plans to attend the Cobras FC Tournament in Rochester. With the ERSL season going well, the team was looking for another challenge to prepare them for the final weeks.

Heading into the tournament the team found out they would be short at a very important spot, Goalkeeper! Still, the team had some great optimism heading into the weekend.

The tournament did not start very well with a lopsided loss to the host team in the Showcase division. Still the match was close until the final few minutes ending very lopsided at 5-0 for the Cobras. The team took to match 2 just to get back on track, with the plan of finishing strong, and played very well in a 3-3 draw with Empire United from the Niagara region. This setup a final game, in which with some help, and a win the G15P could play for gold.

Right from the opening whistle the G15P dominated play. In fact the game was so lopsided, against a local team from Hilton (who had beat Empire United the previous day, that the Hornets were essentially having shots at will on the opposition goal and controlling possession. In the end, the team pulled off a very impressive 3-0 win. This pushed the team into the final.

This is where the story gets really tough. The final match was versus the Cobras FC, the Hornets suffered 2 more injuries in the final 2 matches. Despite the challenges, the G15P showed fight to hold the score close at 2-0 until the final 10 minutes finishing down 3-1. This match was much closer than the previous one that kicked off the tournament.

The team was very excited about finishing second and ending in the finals. The team showed great resilience to overcome the challenges they faced to come away with a silver.
