Ottawa Gloucester Hornets General Manager

The Ottawa Gloucester Hornets are recruiting to hire an experienced, and motivated General Manager (GM) to oversee club operations.

 About the Hornets

The Ottawa Gloucester Hornets were formed in 1973, and provide soccer opportunities for competitive youth, and adults in East Ottawa. The Hornets are a non-profit organization and are a founding Charter member of the Ottawa Gloucester Soccer Club (OGSC). The Ottawa Gloucester Soccer Club (OGSC) was formed in 2009 from what was formerly known as the Gloucester Soccer Association (GSA).

General Manager (GM) Responsibilities

The GM is responsible for all facets of Hornets operations including leadership and management of staff, facility management, financial planning, and budget management.  In addition, you will be working with the Board to further the Hornet’s vision of developing competitive soccer players according to the principles of Long Term Player Development (LTPD).   The GM reports to the President of the Hornets Board of Directors and must attend all OGHS Board of Director meetings. The GM also liaises with City of Ottawa staff and district, provincial, national and international soccer associations and federations to help strengthen and grow soccer in Ottawa.

Management of Staff and Volunteers:  To inspire and manage others.

  • Building and leading successful work teams with a focus on creating cohesive and collaborative work environments;
  • Designing and implementing staffing structures including conducting performance evaluations and managing professional development;
  • Recruiting, retaining, recognizing and rewarding volunteers;
  • Supporting staff and volunteers in the execution of their work.

General Office Administration: To lead and or perform daily actions.

  • Monitor and process assigned mail, emails, voicemails, etc.
  • Answering phone;
  • Ensuring proper payment of invoices to all suppliers;
  • Setup the registration sessions in the registration system by club deadlines;
  • Coordinates refunds;
  • Ensures members are in good standing;
  • Cash management and use of QuickBooks;
  • Speak positively and act in accordance with core values;
  • Maintain office hours and provide a public presence;
  • Maintain and take minutes in meetings;
  • Some website informational postings from time to time;
  • Great flexibility and proactive mindset as challenges arise;

Management of Operations: To lead and coordinate the business effectively.

  • Ensuring the Hornet’s business objectives and goals are obtained through guiding and monitoring the Hornets workflow and performance;
  • Making sound business decisions based on the Club’s strategic plan, goals and operating policies;
  • Managing the successful implementation of soccer programs in partnership with the Technical Director;
  • Managing the Hornet’s finances including the preparation of ad-hoc and annual financial reports;
  • Coordinating and delivering programs and projects within budget, including implementation of
  • Risk identification and mitigation plans;
  • Communications, Marketing and Community Outreach: To build and promote the HORNETS brand
  • Fostering positive community, business and stakeholder relationships;
  • Developing communications systems and messages that positively promote the HORNETS brand;
  • Representing THE HORNETS on local, provincial and national soccer bodies;
  • Driving and manage fundraising, promotional and marketing campaigns; 

Education: A post-secondary education in sports management or business administration or other relevant background is preferred.

French/English are an asset,‎ as we are a bilingual community.
